Slytherin Head of House
Groundskeeper, newly appointed Flying Instructor AND Slytherin Head of House sounds like a LOT of work. As we know, Slytherins are inherently ambitious though and Professor Justin McLeod is clearly the epitome of this character trait. And he does it so well it, too.
1. Another term past. Would you describe it as a successful one? Are you glad to have the summer months to yourself and get out of the school for a while? Will you miss anyone in particular?
A success? You bet, Slytherin won after all. I'll be spending the summer happily with my family and new spouse, but I'll be back here before you know it.
2.We're certainly looking forward to it! A Slytherin Head Girl. What are your thoughts on working with Hadleigh Lynch and Hugo Foster? Did they do a good job at keeping the Slytherins in check? Are you worried about finding two new Prefects for next term that will be just as good as the two graduates?
Miss Lynch and Master Foster both were excellent to work with thanks to their discipline and willingness to help others. As for our next two prefects, I'm certain they will do just as splendidly.
3. This term you've taken on an additional responsibility as Flying Instructor. Was being Groundskeeper and Head of House not time-consuming enough? Which is your favorite position around the school?
It would seem like that wouldn't it? I love each of my jobs, especially with one having me closest with my former house.
4. Another House Cup win for Slytherin. Do you think this is partly due to your leadership skills? Do students ask you for advice?
It's tempting to take all the credit, but it takes more than one great leader to consistently win the Cup. The Slytherin's drive to achieve enough points makes me proud to see given the results. As for advice my door is always open to those who need it.
5. After two years as Slytherin Head of House, what's your overall verdict of Slytherins? Well-behaved? Underestimated? Crazy?
Nothing short of pride, of course.

Slytherin Prefects
If you are wondering where the best place to take a nap in the school grounds are, there is nobody better to ask than Slytherin’s very own male prefect, Hugo Foster. Along with a love for sour worms and dogs, he manages to help the students in his house and across the school with ease while still managing to shuffle his hectic fifth year workload. He gave up some of his time so that I could talk to him about this past year at school and to see just what he is really like.
1. Hello Hugo! What a year! This term, you got Hadleigh as your Prefect Partner instead of Dot like the last two years. What was it like working with her after knowing her for so long?
Hello! What's up? Well, working with Hady was awesome this term, she is very responsible and an amazing partner. Very suitable for Head Girl. And also, Frankie was the Head Boy so, that was pretty cool. The power couple, you know.
2. As a three term prefect, you have been in this role for a while now. Finishing up your last year, what has been your fondest memory as a Prefect?
That's a tough one. I think...getting to know everyone, you know, this “job” requires you to be more social because you are the Prefect, right? And that's what I value the most, all the people I had get to known.
3.I heard that you were one of the first to see the new baby Poltergeist at the end of term feast.. Is that true? And if so, do you think he and his parents will cause a lot of mayhem in the future?
Yeah, that's for sure. I mean, there's always something happening at Hogwarts so, that won't be an exception next term.
4. Two years ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing you and you said you didn’t know what you wanted to do when you left school. Now that you are leaving, have you decided?
Kind of. I know I want something involved in DADA so, maybe become an Auror? I still haven't figured it out. I’ll travel in the meantime.
5. In that same interview, you spoke about training to become an animagus. With Hady as your partner, did you talk about that? Have you started training and do you still plan to do so?
It is kind of a tricky process. I know that Hady and Frankie had been involved in some training with a former professor but, I haven't soo….we'll see. I'm up for it though. It would be cool to be an animagus and very helpful.
6. Can you describe your time at Hogwarts in three words?
Unexpected, fun and tiring. Last one because of OWLs and NEWTs.
7. We have had a lot of staff changes lately. Who has been your favourite Professor and why?
Myers all the way. He knows that. And because he is just the best, I could talk to him about everything and I’ll miss that.
8. Random question to learn something about you! If you could be a crayon, what colour would you be and why!?
Hmm. Interesting question. Green? Slytherin for the win and it also suits me.
9. We’re almost done, so quickly… which is more important house pride or school pride?
School pride because at the end, school if what keeps us together between the four houses, so yeah.
10. Well Hugo, that is us. Last question. You’ve completed seven years here at Hogwarts, been a Prefect for three of those. You’ve managed to sit your OWLs and your NEWTs with a calm head; what knowledge would you pass on to anyone who reads this yearbook?
I wrote that on the memory book. Cool stuff, everyone should read it but now that you ask it. Don't take everything so serious, enjoy and take naps too. Basic stuff but pretty important.

This term, Slytherin’s female prefect Hadleigh Lynch was also given the honour of becoming Head Girl, and as a previous superlative Mrs Hogwarts, we can’t think of anyone better to have lead our school this term. With Irish ancestry, an American upbringing and six siblings, it isn’t much wonder that Hady understands that people can react to things differently, a quality that no doubt helped her with her new, additional responsibilities this term while she continued to juggle her work with creatures, her band The Sirens, studying for her NEWTs and continuing to spend time with her friends. I was lucky enough to find some time to sit down with her and ask her some questions;
1. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me Hady, I know you are busy! Firstly, congratulations on becoming the Head Girl this year. Was it a surprise when you opened your letter and saw your badge?
Thank you! I couldn’t believe it at first! It was always a silent wish of mine but it wasn’t one I actually believed would happen.
2. Hugo had been a Prefect for two years when the term started, how has it been working with him for Slytherin house? Did he give you any tips for how to juggle the class and exam with your new responsibilities?
Hugo is great to work with and I’m glad we got the chance to work together this term. He did, as did several of the other Prefects, however everyone has their own way of balancing out their responsibilities. So while I did take into account all the tips and tricks he offered me I eventually found my own method that worked.
3. One of those self-added responsibilities, takes you to the Stables. I don’t think it is a surprise to anyone who knows you that you love Creatures as much as I do… What are your plans for your future once you leave the halls of Hogwarts?
The Stables was a very much welcomed responsibility as I could always be found there anyhow. I adore Creatures big and small minus one species that several of my peers aren’t to taken with either but I’m working on that. I have big plans ahead to attend University and become a Creature Healer.
4. Speaking about those halls, there was a lot of giggling happening this term… Did you ever think that that giggling would come from the baby of Miffy and Peeves?
Not at all! A baby poltergeist was the last thing I would’ve thought of. I just hope he doesn’t cause to much trouble for everyone next term.
5. Although it seemed nothing major happened this term, Peeves and Miffy certainly caused a lot of problems… What was the most inconvenient for you? Did you have to help with any of the cleanup?
Personally I didn’t deal with either Peeves or Miffy all too much one on one. My main interaction with them was when The Sirens played for them at their wedding and my misfortune in accidently catching the bouquet made of poison ivy. I, as well as my fellow Prefects, all assisted in any cleanups around the castle whenever we could.
6. Over the years you have been voted for a lot of superlatives including most likely to become Minister of Magic, most likely to become an animagus, cutest couple, Mrs Hogwarts and most likely to invent something. Which Superlative would you pick for yourself if you could choose?
That’s true, I have been and still I can’t get over that. Can I make up my own Superlative? If so it would definitely be ‘Most likely to become a Creature Healer’.
7. A little bird told me that you have managed to become an animagus… Is that true? What is your animagus form?
It is! My animagus form is a Red Panda.
8. Random question to learn something about you! If you could be a crayon, what colour would you be and why!?
If I was a crayon my color would probably be a blend of orange and yellow because I’m always happy, friendly and I love being out in the sunshine. Those colors just scream happiness to me.
9. We’re almost done, so quickly… which is more important house pride or school pride?
Oh, wow that’s a tough one. I love my house and I’m always all for showing off my house pride but without school pride we as Hogwarts wouldn’t stand for anything. Being one as a school is more important than being one as a house. We’re stronger together as a school rather than for separate houses.
10. As you finish up your last term, can you tell us what being a Slytherin has meant to you?
Being a Slytherin has meant the world to me. I’ve dreamt of being in Slytherin since before I could even pronounce it properly. I’ve made so many friends over the years and had such amazing times in the dorms and common room. In the end it’s not just a house, it’s family.
